Kayode Abegunde for Insurance Commissioner of Delaware 2020: The Beckoning Of Destiny...... By Remi Oyeyemi
“Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
“If you have men who will only come if they know there is a good road, I don’t want them. I want men who will come if there is no road at all.” - David Livingstone
“We are not here to curse the darkness, but to light the candle that can guide us through that darkness to a safe and sane future.” - John F. Kennedy
There comes a time in the trajectory of man, when man has to evaluate his relevance to humanity, to his environment. In the course of that evaluation, seismic decisions would have to be made; decisions that would seem weird while simmering in its irresistible relevance in juxtaposition to reality. Such decisions might be a run against the convention. It might be against the run of tradition. It might be against the run of expectations. But nevertheless, it has to be taken, based on conviction, driven by a vision, propelled by passion and mobilized as a mission for accomplishment.
History does not make men. It is men that make History. In the course of making History, men have to be courageous. They have to be bold. They have to be imbued with dazzling audacity. They have to troll in tantalizing temerity. They have to frolic with risky effrontery. They have to challenge the tradition. They have to be different and delineate a direction that is distinct, plod a path that is principally unpaved. Such men usually would not consider the sky as a limit but as a stepping stone to penetrating the heavens.
For some of us, who believe in fate, in our hearts and consciousness, well comforted is the concept of destiny. With this concept of destiny are intravenous variables of Providence and Divinity. They are the catalysts of what has to be, what will be and what must be. They are the tools of fate. The embryos of destiny. Providence and Divinity in collaboration with fate, come together to format destiny, to which we must all come in all our journeys on Earth. It is this destiny that is currently beckoning to the man, Kayode Abegunde.
In the History of Delaware, called the "First State," because it is the first State in the American Union of the first 13 Colonies to approve the November 1787 Constitution, no African American has ever won any statewide election into the office of Insurance Commissioner. This is the first time this office would have an African American aiming for the seat in a State where the first immigrants, the Dutch, first landed in 1631.
Kayode Abegunde, the man responding to the beckoning of destiny, who is making record as the first African to bell this cat and contest for this post deserves some kudos for treading this path. The interesting and beautiful thing is that in a State, where the Swedes took control in 1638, and lost to the Dutch in 1651, before the British finally took over in 1674, Abegunde, the man of destiny, has support base across the racial and gender lines for his bid.
The Department of Insurance in the State of Delaware, a small State that sent about 4,000 soldiers to the American Revolutionary war, has its mission and tasks clearly spelt out. These include the protection of insurance consumers, regulation of insurance companies to ensure ability to pay claims; review, approve and or disapprove rates submitted by insurance companies. They also include the prosecution of insurance fraud, license agents and brokers, save businesses money on premium costs, assist medicare-eligible seniors and advocate for residents through arbitration and legislation.
Abegunde who has two MBAs from Wilmington University, Delaware with one concentrating on Finance and another concentrating on Health Care Administration, has his vision clearly defined for the office he is contesting for. His primary goal is to seek and ensure protection for insurance consumers in the State and advocate for Cultural competence on the part of the Insurance Companies.
Determined to put the benefit of his experience to the services of the Delaware State that ratified the U.S. Constitution by a unanimous vote of 30-0 on December 7, 1787, Abegunde is promising the consumers a sense of inclusion that would help to deploy its diversity for the benefit of the average Delawarean without manacling the growth of insurance business in the State.
“We want to protect insurance consumers in our State. That is our first and primary priority. But we want to do it in a manner that would not destroy business so as to protect employment of our citizens in the industry,” Abegunde said, while explaining the thrust of his agenda, as the Delaware’s Insurance Commissioner.
Abegunde who traversed the Rocky City, where the University of Ado-Ekiti was domiciled from whence he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting, had been part of the team that led Tax Audit for Lagos State Board of Internal Revenue in Nigeria. He attended Capella University for his Ph.D. in Human Services and Public Leadership, and later transfer to Wilmington University for Doctor of Social Science in Prevention Science. He is an Alumni of Delaware Citizens Academy under the United States Department of Justice.
As a State that had 5 signatories to the Draft US Constitution despite its being small compared to Georgia with only two signatories and the big expansive Pennsylvania with eight signatories, Delaware would benefit from Abegunde’s vision to ensure reliable insurance coverage at reasonable rates for Delaware consumers as well as encourage timeliness of claim decisions.
Over the years, Abegunde has served in various capacity as an Accountant, Marketing executive, Insurance Agent, Financial Analyst, Consultant, Tax specialist, Investigator, Auditor, Project Manager, Program Director, Human Service Practitioner and Health Care Administrator. He is a certified member of several professional bodies. Past member, Citizen Budget committee Charter School of New Castle, Delaware. He led the audit team of Llangollen Estate Civic Association as the chairman and currently elected as the Vice President of Llangollen Estates Civic Association in New Castle. He was appointed as a Commissioner, Behavioral and Mental Health Care and also appointed as New Castle County Financial Advisory Council by the County Executive. He is a Democrat committee member for 17th District.
Abegunde who is a good communicator is imbued with the ability to understand and effectively interact with people across cultures. He is an apostle of equity and justice for all. His dream as the Insurance Commissioner has a departure point from the purview of an average consumer, the ordinary citizen that is often trod upon by the powerful corporations.
The State of Delaware which was governed as part of Pennsylvania from 1682 to 1701 but had continued to share the same Governor with Pennsylvania until 1776 when all ties were completely broken, would be richly blessed by the ascendance of Kayode Abegunde as the State Insurance Commissioner.
Kayode Abegunde would need your support to be able to reach this destiny that is beckoning to him. Your votes would be worth its value when you give him that push to become the Insurance Commissioner for the State of Delaware in and for our collective interest. Give him your support.

PEOPLE & POVERTY – PP
PEOPLE & POVERTY –
PP
(A Nigerian Problem) –
by Akin Farmar
It is time for
us as a nation, for us youths to rise to the occasion and above mediocrity and
ultimately stepping up to change! Election is over now in Nigeria and elections
in the past has never done our future any good for the last 50years plus.
The time is
now! Time to re-think our future! Time to act is now!
We cannot just
rely on mobilizing ourselves every 4 years for elections only, elections or
government is not going to change our country for us, look at the history and
record nothing to show as a positive outcome, therefore we as a people, as
youths need to act now, change ourselves, re-think our future, create the
future we want, begin to make positive impact at the grassroot up, at the local
communities, creating champions and leaders that little kids can look up to,
helping one another as human beings, organizing local charity events and giving
back to our communities – that is how we create true change and true leaders.
The power is
with us the people, not the government. People like you and I are in the
government therefore they cannot do it all, we as the majority people have the
power to change our story and our conditions.
In 2019
Nigerian elections we witness a lot of young minds step up to run for office
and we also witness youths in mass come out to support themselves, but we all
know the political structure in Nigeria is not fair.
Since elections
are over now, and we know those that the elections favored, we need not fall
back to relax and say to ourselves see you next 4 years. It is time to find
solutions to the problems facing our youths, our communities, our lifestyles.
We can identify all the problems facing us as a nation and the number one is POVERTY!
Our poverty level in the world is the highest compared to other nations. How
come?
A nation with
high numbers of college/university graduates, a nation with oil & gas and
other natural mineral resources, a nation with fertile soil, a nation with a
young population and the median age in Nigeria is 20years old, a nation who boast
of 4 world billionaires listed on the Forbes wealthiest list of people, yet the
poverty level in Nigeria ranks highest in the world. The irony, is that we have
nations in Africa and in other continents without a single billionaire and
without any natural mineral resources still they are not considered the poverty
capital of the world.
We as a nation,
we as youth can start now by addressing the unemployment rate in our
communities, we need to come together with a clear vision to invest in
ourselves, create businesses in our communities, build from small scale to
medium to large enterprises, we can do it because we have the numbers and the
brains to do it.
In 2016 nearly
a million people applied for 10,000 listed positions in the Nigerian Police force,
in 2017 700k people applied for just 500 positions at the Federal tax agency, I
call that ridiculousness, this must change and we as a people need to change it
not the government.
I once saw
somewhere a quote – Nigerians are the happiest people in the world, the irony,
that is true. In extreme poverty Nigerians will find a way to hit the bar &
joints every weekend starting their happy hour from like Wednesday, every weekend
there is always a party or big celebration somewhere. Even though poverty is prevalent,
most folks in Nigeria will rather use the last money on them to enjoy a cold beverage
at a bar.
Re-thinking our
future and applying people strategy can go a long way in the struggles but it can
initiate the process of change for all. What do I mean?
This is the reason
I started my company called SimplyMiddle -SM, helping one small business owner,
one small idea at a time. We have the numbers in this country, thousands of
graduates, thousands of unemployed youths, therefore thinking that the only way
to make it in Nigeria is to go into politics or to seek government jobs or to
become a Pastor, we can start investing in ourselves, creating businesses like
never before, business villages, fashion villages, tech hubs, shoe factories
& shoe villages and so on. China did it, Taiwan did it, Vietnam did it, and
we can do it. We can have more (Aba’s) and the likes, more mechanic training
schools for boys and girls, more technical training schools for boys and girls
that way when we see a young girl in her own workshop working on a car or
repairing a generator, we won’t be surprised rather her contributions to the community
will help eradicate poverty.
SimplyMiddle
already have hundreds of young business owners, entrepreneurs signed up as SM
Members for free, the goal is to create access for funding opportunities to
expand your business, or to start a new venture from an idea. SM helps raise
funds and invest in genuine and serious businesses. It is very difficult to
secure a business loan or investment funding in Nigeria from the banks,
therefore SM model relies on the power of numbers for funding.
Imagine 1000
people donating 1k naira each that translates to 1 million naira, therefore
instead of using that 1k naira for a bottle of cold beverage, you can donate
towards creating jobs for more than 5 people by donating towards SM small
business owners. SM will allocate and Invest in reliable SM community members
that will in turn grow their business and be able to provide employment to
others. SM will monitor the growth of these businesses and hold them accountable
for the investment funds. Let’s take for example, investing in 10 to 20 small
business a year can in turn create hundreds of jobs for the community.
Think about it,
it takes our ideas and our hard work to change Nigeria to what we want her to
be. I become unhappy and very sad at the same time when most calls and messages
from Nigeria to folks abroad is to ask for money for food, money for tuition,
money for rent and so on. They tell you what you already know that Nigeria is
hard, the struggles is getting worse daily and they wish to travel out of
Nigeria. We can change our story if we put in all the work, it will take each
one of us both in Nigeria and in diaspora to fix the problems. Less of talking,
less of article write-ups, less of just sharing articles of what is wrong in
Nigeria, less of pointing blames on others, less of doing nothing but more of
little actions from the ground up, more of contributing your ideas to a
positive change and doing the work.
This is the
reason SimplyMiddle was created, my own way of contributing to change in Nigeria,
many more ideas from others can help us move closer to a better tomorrow. No
matter how small or big your idea may be, some will call it stupid idea, some
will call it unrealistic, some will call it too big and won’t work, I say to
you JUST DO IT! Believing and just doing it has helped United States of America
advance to where they are today. Join me by joining www.simplymiddle.com SM for free and by
donating towards creating /investing in small businesses in Nigeria, let’s do
it together now and not in the next 4 years.

Courage!
FEAR LIMITS A LEADER.
A lot of people have greatness in them that’s been deposited in them from birth by our CREATOR but fail to realize their full potential and the full capacity of their greatness because of FEAR. The question is: What are we afraid of? What are we scared of? A great speaker (Les Brown) said it best, most people are afraid of two things in life, 1) the fear of failure – what if I fail in taking a risk, or what if I fail in starting a business? and 2) the fear of great success – what if I succeed and I attain massive success would I be able to manage the success?
A lot of people have greatness in them that’s been deposited in them from birth by our CREATOR but fail to realize their full potential and the full capacity of their greatness because of FEAR. The question is: What are we afraid of? What are we scared of? A great speaker (Les Brown) said it best, most people are afraid of two things in life, 1) the fear of failure – what if I fail in taking a risk, or what if I fail in starting a business? and 2) the fear of great success – what if I succeed and I attain massive success would I be able to manage the success?
The only thing we have to fear is
FEAR itself – (President Franklin Roosevelt). So what if you fail? You only get
better learning from your mistakes, you pick yourself up and take a look at
what led to your failure so that you don’t make such mistakes again. Most
successful people today have failed several times in their journey to becoming
great as we so know them to be today. And if you become so successful, why
allow fear to scare you of being able to manage your success? Remember! You
know how you overcame obstacles and difficult situations on your way to
success, so apply that same courage to manage your success and also hire the
best of the best to work for you and to work on your areas of weakness.
So which one do you choose? Allow
fear to stop you from trying at all? Or be courageous and tackle fear itself,
learn as you go, grow and develop yourself, follow your passion and focus on
your goals? It is very obvious I chose the latter I will be courageous, because
the greatest regret in life is “never trying at all”
COURAGE is fear that has said it
prayers – (Karl Barth) A courageous act often brings unexpected positive
results and know that nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be
understood. You are your greatest asset or detriment, our limitations in life
are self-imposed therefore work on yourself!
It is possible that you can do
anything and achieve any success in life, you need to work on yourself,
surround yourself with winners, your goals are possible, don’t give up on your
dream, don’t stop running towards your dream. Your life expands in proportion
to your courage and show of courage by a leader inspires.
Life is hard, you will encounter
some challenges and disappointments in reaching your goals, it’s not going to
be easy sometimes but remember you have greatness in you, be courageous and
don’t let fear steal your dream.
I leave you with three great quotes
from one of my favorites motivational speakers of all time who wrote the
“Strangest Secrets” (Earl Nightingale).
·
What’s ironic is that those who don’t have the
courage to take risks and those who do, experience the same amount of fear in
life. The only difference is that those who don’t take chances worry about
trivia things.
·
Don’t major in minor things, your dedication to
potential must remain stronger than your desire to appease others.
·
Courage open doors and remember success is
connected with action so don’t quit until you win.
Akin Farmar.

You too can make it!
I am going to share some few points, after listening to my favorite tape of one the great speakers in history - Earl Nightingale. I believe we all have the powers to change our lives, you can make it to any height you chose to get to in life by acting as thou it was impossible to fail.
- You become what you think about.
- The key to every human beings success lies in his Mind. Think deliberately with a purpose.
- Act the part of the successful person you want to become.
- People with goals succeed, because they know where they are going.
- Jobs don't have future but people do.
- Persistence = Faith, be one of the minorities that knows nothing is impossible.
Finally, I would conclude with one of Earl Nightingale formula - our rewards in life will always be in exact proportion to our contribution our service.

Before You Open Your Mouth
It is very important to think before using your Mouth, and by saying "using your mouth" I mean there are various and multiple purposes for which the Mouth can be used for. Your mouth is one of the most important parts of your body. Any problem that affects your mouth can make it hard to speak, eat, drink or even smile.
This brings me to a very important question - "what is Mouth to you" ?
We all are weapon launchers and we all are weapon receivers, therefore it is important to think, think and think as to how you use your mouth. I encourage you to use your mouth positively, smile and make others smile too.
A.F.S 2013
This brings me to a very important question - "what is Mouth to you" ?
- Is your mouth used for smiling?
- Is your mouth used for speaking words of wisdom?
- Is your mouth used for encouraging the weak?
- Is your mouth used for lifting others when they are down?
- Is your mouth used for appreciating other people?
- Is your mouth used for making other mouths laugh?
- Is your mouth used for telling the truth?
- Is your mouth used for cursing?
- Is your mouth used for lying?
- Is your mouth used for bringing others down?
- Is your mouth used for destroying others
- Is your mouth used for arguments?
- Is your mouth used for speaking non-sense?
- Is your mouth used for making other mouths cry?
We all are weapon launchers and we all are weapon receivers, therefore it is important to think, think and think as to how you use your mouth. I encourage you to use your mouth positively, smile and make others smile too.

A Moment Ago !!!
It felt like it was just a moment ago when I was still thinking about how to get to the top, but now I am up so high in the sky. Just a moment ago I was down on the ground looking up to the stars in the sky, thinking about how they got so high up there and why they shine so bright, but now I am a star at the top and shinning so bright too looking at that same ground that I used to be on; it was just a moment ago !!!
Just a moment ago it was year 2012 and now I can't believe it's already 2013, Just a moment ago I was in the last month December of year 2012 but now I am already in the first month January of 2013. Just a moment ago I was asleep but now I am up awake and that was just 8 hours ago. Just a moment ago I was in Philadelphia but 5 hours later I was in Los Angeles California.
Just a moment ago it was nine months but now the baby is already a toddler, it felt like it was just a moment ago when I was 5 years old but now I'm a daddy.
Just a moment ago I was dreaming about that one idea and now my idea is real, alive and I am not dreaming anymore but rather I am leaving the dream now.
It only takes a bold move to actually make that change in your life, a change that will make you say it was just a moment ago. You need to start somewhere, you need to keep moving, you need to believe in yourself even when people tell you that your dream is too big to accomplish. The bigger your dream the more likely you will say it was just a moment ago if you work at it.
It doesn't have to be perfect, as long as you keep moving no matter how many times you fall, keep your eyes focused on the bigger picture; your vision and your dreams. All you need is the right platform meant for you to connect.
Do not be discouraged, obstacles will try to stop you from moving up, but as long as you connect with your platform and remain focused, you will surely get there and at the end it would be JUST A MOMENT AGO!!!
